28 April 2008:

A monster Blue Marlin which weighed 610 lbs was caught just south west of Dolphin Point on Sunday April 27th 2008. The angler was a tourist, James Allen, from Columbus, Ohio.  James was fishing with Captain Derrin Ebanks aboard "Hit-N-Run".  They hooked up about 1:45 pm and fought the fish on 80 lb. test line for over five hours. Captain Ebanks had all intentions to release this fish but the fish could not be revived after the long fight and was subsequently boated.

The Cayman Islands Angling Club has recognised this catch as the largest Blue Marlin caught on rod and reel in the Cayman Islands. Unfortunately, the mate passed the rod to the angler in the fighting chair which disqualified this fish from being a record catch as it was not caught in accordance with IGFA rules.  The existing Blue Marlin Record of 584 lbs still stands.

Mr Allen’s catch was a remarkable one and is an example of the great fishing experiences which the Cayman Islands has to offer.
